Editors' rating
The good:The Sony MDR-EX90LP provides excellent clarity and detail and decent bass response; the understated black-and-silver design meshes well with most gadgets.
The bad: The silicone ear fittings included with the Sony MDR-EX90LP don't always create a seal with the ear; no cable extender for at-home listening.
The bottom line:The Sony MDR-EX90LP earbuds sound as good as their $100 price tag suggests, but there's nothing particularly exciting about them. They're just good headphones with an understated design.

Great deal - very good earphones,January 27, 2010
I was replacing an exact set I bought a few years ago. I took a chance on the refurb. I've heard of "copy cat" versions of these earphones. My were genuine Sony refurbs from this seller. I love these earphones. I was very happy to get a set of refurbs for half the price of new ones.
Note: My last pair tended to come apart after more than a year of use. I was able to glue them back together every time and still get good use. I was actually quite surprised at how long I was able to keep these earphones given the occasional unplanned tug that would pull the cord from my player. Despite the problem with them coming apart, I still rate them high. The fact that I replaced them with the very same set speaks well of them.

Outstanding quality for the price!, April 3, 2010
I am writing this review keeping in mind that I paid $39 total for the earphones. I was amazed to get them at that price, since they were at $99 at Best Buy the day I purchased them online on Amazon. The sound is excellent, definitely high-end with good bass (Sony earphones always have a lot of bass). I used them primarily with my mp3 player. I listen to mp3 songs in high quality (320 kbps, non-variable rate) and these earphones give me all I need in terms of quality and richness of the sound. Sure, for the original $99 I would have gone for another brand and model (Shure SE-110 that I loved and lost, and which were superior for $99), but at $39, I really don't see which earphones offer such outstanding quality. I have had a lot of different models over the years, including different lower to mid-end Sony models: MDR-EX32, MDR-EX55, MDR-EX56. This one is better. I am very happy!
